Sophie Nyweide was born on July 8, 2000, in Burlington, Vermont, and grew up in Manchester, Vermont. She was the daughter of Shelly Gibson, a former actress, and Jeff Nyweide. From an early age, Sophie exhibited a profound passion for the performing arts, inspired by the films she watched at the Village Picture Shows Cinema, a theater once owned by her mother. At just four years old, after viewing "Something's Gotta Give," she expressed a strong desire to pursue acting, a dream she realized with remarkable dedication.

Sophie began her acting career at the age of six, making her cinematic debut in the 2006 film "Bella," where she played the title role. Her performance garnered attention and led to subsequent roles in notable films:​

• "Margot at the Wedding" (2007): Portrayed the daughter of characters played by Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh.​
• "Mammoth" (2009): Played Jackie Vidales, the daughter of characters portrayed by Michelle Williams and Gael García Bernal.​
• "An Invisible Sign" (2010): Acted alongside Jessica Alba in this drama film.​
• "Noah" (2014): Appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic, featuring stars like Russell Crowe and Emma Watson.​

They noted that she often self-medicated to cope with her inner turmoil, which ultimately led to her untimely death on April 14, 2025, at the age of 24.

Despite support from loved ones and professionals, including therapists and law enforcement officers, Sophie often resisted treatment, preferring to handle her struggles independently.
